Berns, Mike and Jude stacked one above the other, each covering their eyes, ears or mouth with asterisks

Three multidisciplinary artists, raised Black and British with Ghanaian and Nigerian roots.

None of us took a straight path into the creative industry, and each of us has felt how hard it can be for Black creatives in the UK to reach the right opportunities. We found each other's work online, the group chat turned into friendship, and the friendship turned into Rule of Thirds: a space to share what we've learned, learn from each other and build something useful for the wider community.

      Berns

      Berns

      Bernard Bannor, multidisciplinary designer

Berns spent three years in finance before making the jump into design. He's now a product designer at the Guardian and runs Berns Studios, working across brand identity, motion and web for clients in music, hospitality, sport and the arts.

Away from the screen he co-founded BULLY THE ROADS, a grassroots London running club, and Track + Play, an annual community sports day.

      Mike

      Mike

      Michael Akuagwu, multimedia artist

A London-born artist and designer whose work invites reflection on society and culture. Mike started out with surrealist techniques, composite photography and self-portraiture, and his practice now spans mixed media, design and film.

He was the 2025 Adobe Artist in Residence at the V&A. His works Through The Lens and Reference Point are on show in Adobe Creative Residents on Display until November 2026.

      Jude

      Jude

Jude Amponsah, art director and filmmaker

An art director, graphic designer, photographer and filmmaker working across design, film and sound. Jude is Creative Director of Kente Club, and his work is rooted in heritage, identity and rhythm.

He has worked with Dua Lipa, Central Cee, Tinie Tempah, Rema and Michael Kiwanuka, and with Adidas and Warner Records. Winner of the Wex Photographer Award, D&AD One To Watch, and shortlisted 6th of 1,500 for New Designers Designer of the Year. MA Commercial Photography (Distinction) and BA Graphic Design (First Class), Nottingham Trent.
